Although they avoided restricting their vision to any specific sound or style, the duo did set some firm intentions for the new band: to create music without self-imposed limitations, and to always push for sonic innovation. With its raw rock-and-roll energy and gospel-like intensity, the track unfolds in stomping rhythms, heavy piano riffs, and soulful vocals that slip from free-form confession to feral howl. Ross: The main inspiration was just the tone of the song and how that made, well how it makes you feel when you listen to it. Um, for a movie, you just have extensive research. But I would expect some touring and some festivals and obviously music. And that was kind of like evidence of that. Ross: Music video shoots are just, like, super chill. In the press release that I read, you guys talked a bit about your desire to break down barriers between genres, which you just kind of alluded to again with mentioning Post Malone as a collaborator. Ross: I was really proud of New Addictions.
It comes together really nicely, and I love it. We also explored their opinions about evolving genres and plans for the next year. Ross: I Like it a lot. Rocky: Do you know what songs you heard? And I just actually read this Einstein quote this morning that I thought was really interesting. Ross: It would be sweet! Really the only thing that is almost 100% certain is that there will be music throughout the year released.
