I acknowledge that I was exaggerating the predicament a little in my previous post. I'm not as much of a novice as I seem in this thread. I sync my Chrome across half a dozen devices as do tons of other users and never had a problem so it's not that hazardous but sometime a glitch can happen. The other is that Google was punishing me for trying out its upcoming, updated bookmarking tool, or a change to Stars corrupted my bookmarks file. These are found easily using the Windows Explorer on Windows 8 or the Explorer on Windows 7. Thanks again for all your help Triple6.
I noticed that my Google Chrome bookmark bar along the top of the screen had disappeared. Searched for backups and all trouble shooting I could find online to no avail. Also Safari only syncs to Safari, and Chrome to only Chrome unless you installed some third party program instead of using the built in sync features, which is why you didn't see the bookmarks on the computer. My question is actually about the bookmarks bar. Or how to get them back? Once you get to these files you can modify, delete or copy them for back up.
Restarted Chrome and and signed back in. This has been an extremely traumatic experience. After googling numerous times for help, I finally found a solution of setting up another person in chrome under 1 settings, 2 manage other people. This is extremely important to me.
Luck is in the air. For example, I have only about 3 bookmarks on my bookmark bar. Your screenshot shows several bookmarks files, what you need to do is rename the current bookmarks file to something like bookmarks. I like the bar and used to have icons for a quick link to my favorite web sites. I though it might be hazardous and it was, unfortunately. How was I to know this or to anticipate this, I did nothing wrong.
Seems to be fixed now, for me at least. Whatever your reason for needing the location of the bookmarks files, before you modify them or delete them, you must exit Google Chrome. I think I remember seeing a 'Pencil' icon before, but it's not there now. After completing the steps outlined in the article my Chrome data folder looks like this see screenshot attached - I have highlighted the bookmark folders.
