He came out of literally nowhere. Its not comedy, Comedy is to supposed to make you feel euphoric, happy, not grit your teeth and reach of the remote. Two back to back episodes and in that entire hour I don't think I laughed even just one time. Can we also give her a ton of money and a show when she's done nothing to prove she actually has any talent of her own? It has been my first look at Daniel Levy, Annie Murphy and Emily Hampshire and all three have brought immediate depth to their characters. I could coax better writing and funnier jokes out of my three year old with the promise of a cookie before nap time.
Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara deliver rock solid performances that any fans of their previous work will be quite pleased with. Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara are both good in their parts but they are totally wasted in this. If you are looking for Two and a Half Men or the like, don't waste your time. We can let him direct and star and write and executive produce and do everything else he wants, and just assume that he knows what he is doing because he is Eugene Levy's son. Such a wonderful change of pace.
Johnny and Alexis begin re-branding the motel, but Stevie is apprehensive, fearing that they're expanding too quickly. I mostly blame the writing for not giving them anything to work with and even though they don't come off as bad actors in this not even they can save it. Dan Levy's character is amazing and Catherine O'Hara is great - love seeing her again! Meanwhile, Alexis is putting all of her energy into school and her career, but is finding it difficult to focus when she still has lingering feelings for her ex-fiancé, Ted. The cinematography and production design remind me of Shameless; the sharp writing and unique characters remind me of Silicon Valley. There are also plot holes galore, such big holes in logic you could drive a nonsense truck through them.
I can't even begin to guess the tax dollars this one is gonna cost us. How could they have so many jokes and not even be funny once? Nothing significant in his repertoire - ever. In 60 minutes they told all those jokes and all of them were bad. David and Alexis go on a buying trip to a local farm, and Alex is soon realizes that she has a connection to the farmer, which puts her in an awkward position. Every aspect of this show is unbelievably horrible. The confidence on the part of the filmmakers is evidenced by the lack of a laugh track, and further, the musical score is used sparingly.

Excellent performances all around, each actor nails the self-absorbed, privileged attitudes of the rich, and the humor comes from their inability to adapt, unrealistic expectations, and their awkward interactions with the locals. It's not a show everyone will find amusing, but it has it's moments, and is worth watching - so far. There are no characters in the show that are unlikeable. With Stevie's help, Patrick rearranges some products in the store to illustrate David's inability to compromise, and David tries his best to conciliate. It can be hilariously funny, but what really hooks me is that it has a heart and a sweetness that other shows might be afraid to show. I'm definitely looking forward to watching how the characters evolve and crossing my fingers that the story remains strong and that the show has another season.
