If only all of the film packed the punch of Blunt and Blucas's work or the funny-sad dynamic shared by Bello and Dancy, it would be a far more successful, compelling work. There are only a few book club scenes that address certain aspects of the novels; the story is really about the book club members, themselves - five women of varying ages and one young man. All are devoted Jane Austen fans, except the lone man, Grigg, who has an ulterior motive for joining the chick-lit gang. He's also the character that is partly in the film to keep the men interested, but I found myself drawn into the picture even when he wasn't in it. Lastly, there is Grigg Dancy , a science fiction fan who is in the club because he is interested in Jocelyn. However, dialogue is conveyed clearly, with no distortion or drop-out and the few surround effects are handled nicely. Throw in a fair amount of persuasion.

The Jane Austen Book Club will make a nice Valentine's day gift and a good addition to your Blu-ray library. For starters, she would have picked a better movie to watch, or made sure this movie better reflected the depth and character of her writing.
The image is mostly clear with excellent color reproduction, even though the colors don't necessarily jump off the screen with vibrancy and spunk. We'd seen pretty much everything else of interest, so we agreed the cast of the movie looked like fun, so we went. It's a sprawling story of heartbreak and friendship, and while it doesn't pack true passion, it has a fireside, knitted-sweater charm about it that creates an affable viewing experience.
